Commander's mother
Commander Abbas Ali Navi's mother lives in the village of Tal Siyath in Khuzestan province, Iran. She lost her son who was the commander of the army in 1988 during the Iran-Iraq war.
He lived 25 years in a small room next to his son's grave. About 10 years after the commander's martyrdom, she lost her other son in a car accident and buried him next to the commander's grave. Her husband also died because of biting a snake and he was buried in that small room. Now she lives in the same village with her daughter, but these days she visits the graves of children and husband just once a week because of old age and disease, and the people in the village also visit her and ask her to pray for them.
Gel-mali ritual
A religious ritual performed on Ashura, the 10th of Muharram on which the third Shia Imam, was killed. In this old tradition, the people of Khorramabad, the capital of Lorestan Province mix clay with water in big ponds in major squares and streets for people to apply on their faces and clothes as a sign of mourning. Some people collect dry wood and light fires to warm mourners who have covered themselves with mud.
